Monitoring Diabetic Ulcers
The need
Diabetic ulcers occur in up to 26 million people a year.
Diabetic foot ulcers occur in up to 25% of people with diabetes. 6% of these people will be hospitalised due to infection or other ulcer-related complication.
Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputations in the U.S. Up to 24% percent of patients with diabetes who develop a foot ulcer will require an amputation.
In Australia alone, there are approximately 4,400 amputations every year as a result of diabetes.
The benefits
Our technology allows people with diabetes to identify when they have the risk of developing a diabetic ulcer through tracking locations of increasing stress and pressure.
Long-time monitoring can occur for both pressure (ulcer risk), and gait pattern (diabetic polyneuropathy).
With early interventions, people can prevent this transforming into a diabetic ulcer.
